Funny, I didn't "discover" this important effect until like 5 years ago, I thought seasons were caused by the tilt, but by the sun's longer path through the atmosphere. No way. Check the comments:
You kind of lose credibility when you can't even describe seasons correctly. The distance to the sun has bet little to do with seasons. Seasons are caused by the angle to the sun, either reducing or increasing the energy per unit area.
The below is close to the point, but would confuse more people
The tilt causing parts of the planet to be “closer” to the sun results in such a minor distance difference that it’s not the reason for the increased heating in the summers for a hemisphere. It’s the increase in the concentration of the solar rays over a given area due to the curve of the earth.
